Turn Down The Noise in Your Life in 5 Easy Steps

Turn Down The Noise in Your Life in 5 Easy Steps

One of the fastest ways to come to a place of calm is to try and foster a sense of silence. Most of us know how beneficial this can be, but in today’s over stimulated world, it can feel impossible. See below for my top five ways to quiet the noise and find some space for yourself during this busy season.

  1. Waking Moment

In the morning, when your alarm goes off or you are waking up, take a moment to be still and reflect on the prior night’s sleep. This is about anything you are grateful for - no matter how big or small. You can do this while waking up, as your feet hit the floor.

2. 5-Minute Meditation

Find a relatively quiet space where you can be alone. Sitting upright, or lying down take 5 deep inhales. Follow that with 5 deep exhales. Repeat 2 times and then breathe naturally for approximately 5 rounds of regular breathing. Don’t let the word “meditation” scare you! Think of this as just grabbing a moment to still yourself. Thoughts will come and go - just let them float by.

3. Nature Moment

Go outside for a few minutes without earbuds or headphones. Tune into your five senses and really try to notice what is happening around you.

4. Social Media Detox

Hide or delete your social media apps for a few hours when you normally would use them to fill time or as a distraction. Observe how you feel. Take note of any discomfort and lean into the good you're doing yourself by taking this moment.

5. Journal

Take a few minutes to write freely in a journal. Note down whatever comes to mind. Don’t judge your thoughts, just get it all down on paper. Any worries, concerns, thoughts of gratitude, or things that come to mind can go on the paper. Get it all out!

The benefits of even these small practices are profound. Our thoughts become more clear, we are more easily able to access a sense of stillness and peace, and we feel an immediate release of stress and anxiety.

During this busy season, my hope is that you can turn to these practices to bring a sense of ease into your life. The world will stay busy - but these area the tools for your to carve out your own break in the current.
